  2. Interesed in reading this site. I was In 244 Signal Sqn in Lippstadt in 1966 to 67 when it was disbanded and some of us went on to RAF Laarbruch to form COC Troop Air Support. I have never been able to find any reference to this troop. I was in the troop till 1969 when I went to JCU Bahrain. Any one heard of COC Troop? Regards Ray GW4PUC. Royal Signals Amateur Radio Society member 2076.

  14. My late father, Leonard Gilbert Townsend, joined the Army (No.6146753) on 13th June 1940, initially with the East Surrey Regiment, but on 21st April 1941 he joined the 43rd Division of the Royal Corps of Signals where he remained until released on 2nd May 1946.
    He worked his way up through Italy from March to November 1944 with 63 Construction Section, 1 AFS and 7 AFS. For about 9 months in 1945 he was in Germany with 12 AFS.
    I have letters sent during these periods describing his life and would dearly like to be able to determine his location and activity when each was sent. I have written to the Royal Signals Museum to ascertain if diaries exist for these Units and whether it may be possible to determine this information from them.
    However, I wonder if any of your knowleadgable guests may be able to suggest other sources of such information if they do not exist at the Museum.
    My father would have been 94 now so I cannot conceive that anybody might remember serving with him in Italy or Germany but it is worth asking the question.

  18. Hello;

    I have just recieved my Grandfathers Service Records from APC Glasgow, my Grandfather William George Ballard served with 16 AFS and went to Normandy D+1.
    I was very happy when I found this site.

    I have a couple of photos that I'll post and would be interested in finding out more details.

    Now I know what unit he served with I'll be popping down to Blandford to see if they have the Units War Diaries.

    I'd also be intrerested to meet anyone that knew him, he sadly passed away in 2000 aged 91 but did join up late.

    Many thanks
