Became 81st Signal Squadron (V) in 1967 following the cessation of national service and a wide ranging review of the volunteer services. The Squadron is 'heir in title' to 2nd Air Formation Signals and came under command of 21st Signal Regiment when both units moved to Colerne in July 1992. It assumed a wider role in 1999 when it moved to 2nd Signal Brigade at Corsham.
