Formed from 2 & 3 coys, 3 AFS, in July 1941. Became 4th Air Formation Signals (North Somerset Yeomanry) in 1942. Supported the Desert Air Force, moving to Sicily from D + 1 onwards. North Somerset Yeomanry members returned to UK in the autumn of 1944 and the unit handed over to 8 AFS and withdrew to be reinforced. After supporting the Balkan Air Force the unit withdrew to the Canal Zone supporting the RAF throughout the middle east. Moved to Nicosia and eventually reduced to squadron strength (261 Signal Squadron (Air Formation)) and continues to the present day as the Cyprus Communications Unit.
